LED, light that awakens the skin

What is an LED?

An LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a small source of cold, very precise light, used in certain beauty devices to improve skin quality.

Unlike UV or lasers, they do not heat up, or very little, and do not burn the skin. These lights act through photobiomodulation, meaning they pass through the surface of the skin and stimulate cellular activity.

As LED therapy is more about maintenance than one-off intervention, home devices allow for gentle and continuous stimulation, promoting a gradual improvement in skin quality.

How does it work?

Each color corresponds to a wavelength measured in nanometers (nm), determining its depth of action in the skin.

Short waves act on the surface, while long waves penetrate deeper. Light is absorbed by cells, stimulating their activity, particularly energy production (ATP), collagen synthesis, skin regeneration, and inflammation reduction.

This process is called cellular biostimulation.

Each color has its specific action

Red LED (630–660 nm)

Main action: anti-aging & firmness

The red color acts deep within the dermis by stimulating the activity of fibroblasts, cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. This biostimulation promotes a gradual improvement in skin firmness and elasticity, helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

It is ideal for mature skin, sagging, and anti-aging prevention.

Red LED Mask

Orange LED (590-610 nm)

Main action: radiance and vitality

Orange LED is known for stimulating blood and lymphatic microcirculation, which promotes a better supply of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells.

This improved circulation helps revive skin radiance, reduces the appearance of fatigue, and supports skin repair. Orange LED is ideal for dull, stressed, tired, or lackluster skin.

Green LED (520–550 nm)

Main action: skin tone uniformity

These LEDs act at an intermediate level of the skin by regulating melanin production. This helps reduce the appearance of pigmentation spots and even out skin tone. Its soothing action also helps calm diffuse redness, leading to more homogeneous and visibly balanced skin.

Ideal for uneven complexion, mild spots, and hyperpigmentation.

Blue-Green LED (505 nm)

Main action: clarity and "Tone-up" effect

The 505 nm LED is exactly between blue and green. It combines the properties of blue LEDs, with anti-inflammatory action, and green LEDs, which regulate pigmentation.

But above all, 505 nm is studied for its action on skin clarity, by directly acting on excess superficial melanin and on the oxidation responsible for dull complexion.

Unlike other LEDs, 505 nm acts more finely on skin tone quality: it limits post-acne marks and improves microcirculation, for clearer, less dull, and more homogeneous skin. It is often referred to as a "tone-up" effect, which restores overall luminosity rather than merely targeting spots.

Blue Green LED Mask

Blue LED (415–470 nm)

Main action: anti-blemish

Blue LED primarily acts on the surface by targeting the bacteria involved in acne, particularly Cutibacterium acnes. Its antibacterial action helps reduce pimples and limit their appearance.

It also helps reduce inflammation associated with imperfections, regulate excess sebum, and visually refine skin texture, giving the impression of tightened pores.

It is ideal for combination to oily skin or inflammatory acne.

Overall benefits of LED in beauty tech

In beauty tech, LEDs act through photobiomodulation to stimulate cellular activity and support the skin's natural functions. Depending on the wavelength used, they can improve firmness and elasticity by promoting collagen production, revive radiance by stimulating microcirculation, reduce redness through their soothing action, and help diminish light spots by regulating pigmentation.

They are frequently combined with other technologies such as EMS, radiofrequency, microcurrents, or heat. In synergy, LED prepares and supports the skin, creating a more receptive cellular environment and enhancing the overall effectiveness of others.

Who is LED therapy for?

LED therapy is suitable for almost all skin types, including sensitive skin when used appropriately. Non-invasive and painless, it is for individuals seeking a gentle and progressive solution, both for anti-aging prevention from 25–30 years old and for maintenance to prolong the benefits of professional care.

Exposure duration and usage protocol

The exposure duration is generally around 10 minutes per session, but it can vary depending on the device used, power, and desired effect.

Like any beauty tool, consistency is essential to achieve visible results.
