From SEKKISEI to SEKKISEI BLUE: The Maison KOSÉ Legacy
The story begins in 1985, with the launch of SEKKISEI in Japan.
The range was built around a combination characteristic of Japanese cosmetics: plants rooted in Asian traditions, researched and incorporated into contemporary formulas.
SEKKISEI BLUE now carries this legacy forward with a more holistic approach.
Maison KOSÉ presents it as a new generation of SEKKISEI, born from the meeting of cosmetic research and Eastern philosophy. The brand also places strong emphasis on sensoriality, particularly through a botanical, woody and aromatic fragrance developed around notes such as bergamot, gettou, rosemary, lavender, cedar and sandalwood.
But to truly understand SEKKISEI BLUE, we need to return to three concepts that shape the entire range: Ki, Ketsu and Sui.

KI, KETSU, SUI: An Approach Inspired by Kampo
SEKKISEI BLUE draws inspiration from Kampo, the Japanese adaptation of traditional Chinese medicine.
The brand focuses in particular on three concepts:
- Ki, associated with vital energy.
- Ketsu, associated with circulation that nourishes the body and skin.
- Sui, meaning water and naturally echoing the concept of hydration.
In the SEKKISEI BLUE philosophy, balance between these three dimensions is considered essential to overall well-being. The range translates this idea into skincare by focusing on comfort, hydration, barrier function and radiance.
It is of course not about reproducing a medical practice through a cosmetic product, but rather drawing on a particular conception of balance: not treating the skin as a succession of isolated problems, but seeking to preserve its overall function and comfort.
This philosophy particularly resonates with our vision of J-Beauty at Bijo;.

The SEKKISEI BLUE Selection to Discover During Super Japon
For SUPER JAPON, the selection offers an introduction to the brand’s universe through several steps of the facial ritual, as well as body and hand care.
The Cleansing Oil: the first step of double cleansing
The SEKKISEI BLUE Cleansing Oil is a rich, silky oil designed to dissolve makeup, sebum and impurities before water-based cleansing.
It combines coix seed oil, plant-derived squalane, rice bran and corn germ oils, along with extracts of ginseng, Coptis japonica and Sasa veitchii.
Made with 85% naturally derived ingredients, it forms the first step of double cleansing, leaving the skin soft and comfortable after rinsing.
Apply to dry skin, emulsify and rinse, then follow with a facial cleanser.
The Exfoliating Cleanser: purify without compromising comfort
The second step can be performed with the Exfoliating Cleanser, whose gently exfoliating texture and dense foam are designed to target impurities, excess sebum and dead skin cells.
Its formula combines charcoal, ginseng, Sasa veitchii, Inula flower and fermented coix seeds.
Charcoal helps absorb excess sebum, while botanical extracts complement the formula by supporting hydration, comfort and radiance. The formula is made with 75% naturally derived ingredients.
The Clarifying Toner: preparing the skin
After cleansing comes an essential step in many Japanese routines: lotion.
The SEKKISEI BLUE Clarifying Toner is used after cleansing to remove any remaining impurities and dead skin cells while preparing the skin for the steps that follow.
Its formula contains water and Yamanashi grape extract, Hokkaido haskap, fermented coix seeds, ginseng, Sasa veitchii and Inula flower.
With 93% naturally derived ingredients, its fresh texture is suitable for all skin types.
A particularly interesting step for understanding Japanese layering: the toner is not simply the end of cleansing, it already marks the beginning of skincare.

Balancing Oils: Two Textures for Different Skin Types
SEKKISEI BLUE then offers two Balancing Oils, designed as oil-serums and selected according to skin needs and the desired texture.
- The Balancing Oil I has a lightweight texture, particularly suited to normal to combination, dehydrated or dull skin.
Its formula combines camellia oil, squalane, olive, rice bran and meadowfoam seed oils. It nourishes and provides comfort without leaving an overly rich finish. - The Balancing Oil II is more enveloping. It is better suited to dry, dull or uncomfortable skin and can also be used as a base for facial massage.
Both formulas are made with 91% naturally derived ingredients.
This choice of textures is particularly interesting: rather than offering the same ritual for everyone, SEKKISEI BLUE allows certain steps to be adapted to the skin’s condition and needs.
An approach that extends to body and senses
The SEKKISEI BLUE universe goes beyond facial skincare.
The line also develops a more sensorial dimension around the body, hands and fragrance.

The Aromatic Soothing Body & Hand Milk
Combines avocado oil, glycerin, ginseng, Sasa veitchii and fermented coix seeds. Its lightweight texture is designed to nourish and soften without a sticky finish.

The Aromatic Firming Body Oil
Combines rice, olive, macadamia, safflower, camellia and meadowfoam seed oils. Its richer texture can be used as part of a body massage.

The Aromatic Purifying Liquid Hand Soap
Brings together several of the range’s signature ingredients — ginseng, Sasa veitchii and fermented coix seeds — in a foam designed to cleanse while maintaining hand comfort.

The Aromatic Meditation Deep Breathing Mist
Available in two sizes, it can be misted onto the body or hair. Its woody, aromatic and herbaceous fragrance was imagined as a sensory extension of the ritual.
This dimension seems important to us in understanding SEKKISEI BLUE: beauty is not considered solely through the visible results on the skin, but also through the gesture, the texture, the fragrance and the moment we give ourselves.

How to Build Your SEKKISEI BLUE Routine
For the face, the ritual can begin simply:
Of course, there is no need to incorporate all the products at once.
The idea is rather to understand the role of each step: remove oil-soluble impurities with the oil, cleanse the skin, prepare it with the toner, then choose a skincare texture suited to your needs.
This succession of complementary products naturally echoes Japanese layering, where order, consistency and understanding your skin matter just as much as the number of products used.
Why Bijo; Selected SEKKISEI BLUE
At Bijo;, we were particularly drawn to the way SEKKISEI BLUE brings together several dimensions of Japanese beauty.
The Maison KOSÉ legacy
Decades of cosmetic research built around SEKKISEI, brought to life through a contemporary vision of skincare.
Signature ingredients
Coix seeds, ginseng, Sasa veitchii, camellia and rice: a focus on Japanese and Asian botanical ingredients combined with highly contemporary textures.
A holistic vision of the ritual
Facial care extends to the body, hands, massage and even fragrance.
We see several principles in this approach that particularly resonate with us in J-Beauty: preserve rather than overcorrect, adapt textures to your skin and turn consistent skincare into a true ritual.
This is also a line that is still rarely available in France, and one we wanted our customers to be able to see, smell and experience in person, rather than discovering it exclusively online.

A Brand Still Very Exclusive in France
SEKKISEI BLUE recently arrived on the French market. Maison KOSÉ presents it as a new line available to French consumers, with physical distribution still very limited.
In Paris, the facial range is currently available at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, in the Beauty & Care area on level -1.
And during SUPER JAPON, there is a second location where you can discover it in person: the Bijo; Japanese Beauty Bar at Le Bon Marché.
At Bijo;, SEKKISEI BLUE is exclusively available at the SUPER JAPON pop-up : for the time being, you will not find it in our permanent spaces or at Samaritaine.
A deliberately exceptional presence, making SUPER JAPON a unique opportunity to discover the range, its textures and its sensorial universe with our teams.
