Keiko Suyama introduces her Japanese style UV Care

Keiko Suyama Présente Ses Soins UV À La Japonaise

Skin protection against UV rays is one of the main beauty concerns of Japanese women. Indeed, Japanese women have observed for several centuries that exposure to sunlight speeds up the appearance of aging signs like wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

UV rays are responsible for 80% of visible skin aging (wrinkles, spots, skin sagging, etc.) and they can be found all year round, from winter to summer. It is therefore advisable to protect it 365 days a year, from the first light of day.

There are two types of UV rays (UVA & UVB) and two types of protection index to provide full spectrum coverage. SPF is for UVB and PA is for UVA.

SPF : Sun Protection Factor indicates the level of protection against Ultraviolet B rays (UVB), which cause sun burns. The higher the SPF figure, the more effective UVB protection.

PA : Protection Grade of UVA indicates the level of protection against Ultraviolet A rays (UVA) whose wavelength is greater and penetrate deeper into the skin, causing spots and wrinkles. UVAs can easily cross the clouds and glass of the windows. Therefore, so even in a cloudy weather or indoors, it is necessary to protect yourself from the UVA.

In Japan, the levels are measured in the following categories and used according to their location.

However, the simple application of solar protection with a full spectrum protection is not enough ; if the amount of sunscreen is too little or unevenly applied, it will not be truly effective. It is recommended to apply the equivalent of 2 fingers of sunscreen every day and of reapply frequently in case of factors like water, perspiration, direct exposure to rays and friction that can breakdown sunscreen coverage.

It is for this reason that I find this UV mirror a very interesting way to ensure complete protection. The UV camera integrated into the mirror allows you to check instantly If the cream has been properly applied and if and where it is necessary to reapply.

I use SPF 50 protection every day but none of the brands I use are available in Europe. That’s why I started using the cream SOS SOS SERUM SPF 50 which also has PA ++++ protection whose quality is very close to Japanese UV protections.

I love this cream because it applies lightly, all over the face and body, and it isn't sticky, nor does it leave a white cast !

Throughout the year, I use UV protections, bases, BB creams, liquid foundations and tinted powders with SPF and PA +++ factors which I layer on my face. It is a must in taking good care of my skin.
